I live in ghetto. I live here because as a single 24/7 mother, a full time student cannot afford to live anywhere else. Don't take me wrong, I am not complaining. I have a roof over my and my son's heads. Unlike 6 years ago when I was on the streets, with no place to go, with no money to rent a room. Now I have a roof over my and my son's heads.
And it is okay that I was called f***ing b**ch for asking a person not to smoke in the hall because all the smoke goes to my apartment and suffocates my then 1 year old baby and myself. Because I have a roof over my and my son's head.
And it is okay that one day I was returning home and startled a guy whom I didn't know, never seen him before, was about to pee in the corner of my house's hall. he said that he is was not from here and there are no restroom around, so... I have roof over my and my son's head.
And it is okay that I clean every day like insane and my son is trained not leave any food or traces of food anywhere in the apartment to avoid roaches roaming around, but roaches don't pay attention to our efforts and still feel quite comfortable here, because I have a roof over my and my son's head.
And it is okay that a couple with my son's age child wanted to become friends with me and after they knew where I live, started to avoid me and my son and look down at me, because I have a roof over my and my son's heads.
And it is okay that I have to pretend that I didn't hear when the parents of my son's friends imply that the next playdate would be at my place. I do this because they are too dear for me to loose them to stigma about "projects". I am afraid that they will act like the couple from a previous chapter. I have a roof over my and my son's heads.
And it is okay that when I go to a date I pick a place for a meeting far from where I live, so it would never get into a guy's head that I live in ghetto, otherwise I will miss a chance to socialize in a normal atmosphere, because I have a roof over my and my son's head.

Summary of Taming Macho Ways by Elvia Alvarado
Life of country people in Honduras (campesinos)
In "Taming Macho Ways," Elvia Alvarado describes uneasy life of campesinos people, especially women. They work as much as men. They do any task except ones that demand physical strength, and only because women always either nursing or pregnant. Moreover, men make womens' life even harder by drinking, mistreating them, not helping them out with household issues and having a demanding attitude. The author tries to identify the source of campesinos troubles and suggests some ways to resolve their problems. Elvia believes that changes must be done on governmental level as well as on personal level. She uses her personal experience as an example. She reveals that she had bad habits as gossiping and flirting with married men, but she changed due to better education.
Critical Questions
1. Should police be more involved with fights between husbands and wifes or fights must be resolved on family level?
2. Is there such a thing as woman's tasks and man's tasks?

The worst date EVER!
It was lovely evening, the weather was perfect, homework was done, I had got my manicure, new dress and new shoes. "What all this fuss about?", you would ask me. "I have a date!" I would reply. "Not just any date, but with a guy I like very much. He is smart, handsome and make me laugh" I would continue my dialogue with you. The guy had invited me to the fancy restaurant.
We came to the restaurant, were seated. The waiter came:
-Hello, guys! My name is Michael and I am your waiter for tonight.
Michael was young and attractive, was smiling a lot in order to be friendly. I guess my date decided that Michael was too friendly to me, and started making fool out himself by doing stupid remarks such as: "Do you get paid extra for flirting with clients?" or another one: "Do you write your telephone number on napkins for the clients you liked?"
Michael was trying to make a joke out all these remarks by saying "Yes, sir," or "Of course, sir," while smiling politely. "Enough is enough" I thought . I stood up and left the restaurant.
I broke up with the guy, even though I wanted to be with him. I realized that he was jealous and insecure person. I didn't want that kind of folk around me. Wise people say: "Sometimes not getting something becomes the biggest gift from the universe". That is exactly what happened with me that night.
